Mykolaiv, Lviv Oblast : ウィキペディア英語版 | Mykolaiv, Lviv Oblast
Mykolaiv ((ウクライナ語:Миколаїв), also referred to as Mykolayiv, (ポーランド語:Mikołajów)) is a city in Lviv Oblast (region) in western Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Mykolaiv Raion (district). Population: . To distinct Mykolaiv from the much larger southern city, the former is sometimes called Mykolaiv on Dniester ((ウクライナ語:Миколаїв над Дністром), ''Mykolaiv nad Dnistrom'')() after the major river it situated on (while the latter is located on the Southern Buh, another major river). The closest railway station is officially called ''Mykolayiv-Dnistrovsky'' for that matter. The city was founded by Polish soldier out of Przemysl Mikolaj Tarlo in 1570 and after whom it was named. In 1772, following the Partitions of Poland, the town was annexed by the Habsburg Empire, where it remained until late 1918. In the interwar period, it returned to Poland, and belonged to the Stanislawow Voivodeship. Mykolaiv, then called Mikołajów, received Magdeburg rights in 1570, when it was a private town, property of Polish nobleman Mikolaj Tarlo, the Chorazy of Przemysl. In 1837, Polish romantic writer Walery Lozinski was born here.
